3 Easy magic tricks to impress friends, family, and strangers

magic

I remember doing a magic show for my family when I was young. I pulled candy out of an empty paper bag by layering two bags and placing the candy between them, showing the empty inside bag, then reaching between the bags to get the candy in the outer bag. It was super obvious, but my parents were happy to humor me by being in the “amazed” magic show audience, and while my brother wasn’t impressed with that trick (“I saw you have two bags there. I know how you did it”), he got candy so he didn’t mind too much.

Now that I’m older, I’d like to be able to have a few tricks that I can do with common objects and regular playing cards, because then when I travel I can do them as an ice breaker.

So… Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: step right up to read about the Incredible Shelly’s masterful tricks:

Final Week of the 31 Days of Everyday Adventure challenge

The challenge is now on-demand: 31 Days of Everyday Adventure email challenge.

Last week we finished our Everyday Adventure challenge!

I’ve really enjoyed these last few days of the challenge. As I write this post, I feel so grateful that people were excited about participating and following along. It’s been an amazing experience for me to create (and do) something that helps us appreciate life more. I’ve grown as a person, taken steps to leave my comfort zone, and was constantly reminded to enjoy the small things instead of rushing to the next big thing.

A very special shout out and thank you to my blogging partners on this challenge: Suz from McVagabonds, Lara Krupicka, and Randi from Life’s Simple Adventures. Their bios are on the challenge page, but you should check out their blogs as well. They’re all doing amazing things and are wonderful people to know! It’s been amazing to go through this challenge with them.

Summer Bucket List 2016

beach-1436821_1920.jpg.
For the last two years, I’ve made a summer bucket list with 25 things on it. Both years, I left many items undone. Last year, I counted the days in summer (95 days) and thought that it would be plenty of time to get 25 things done (average of one every 3-4 days), but I realized I’m not willing to eliminate all other summer activities just to do the things on this list by a certain time (too much pressure!). This year, I’m making a more realistic list of 15 items. Since there are 13 weeks (plus 3 days) this summer, I can do an average of just about one each week.

I tried to focus the majority of list items around free or very affordable activities, because I’m saving up for my road trip at the end of the summer. Same with last year, I’ve picked some items from my existing list and added some new items just for the summer, and I don’t include things I already know I’ll do. I’m also using the same key as the full list: bold = completed; linked = link to the post about it; * = in progress; (hidden) = well, you get it.
