On his Twitter profile, Stevie Kane describes himself as a “Connector, Storyteller, Purveyor of Enthusiasm & Zest.” His Strictly Good Energy lifestyle is expressed through small projects, poetry, and Instagram posts. Today he shares the story of how he became school president, the best advice he’s ever received, and about his chance encounter with Drake.

Name and Blog:
Stevie Kane at Strictly Good Energy

Fun fact about you:
In 4th grade I sang NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna be Me” by myself at my elementary school talent show. I sang the first verse while playing the piano then ran on stage and danced, by myself, to the rest.

Funner fact:
The next year, so 5th grade, I ran for school president. We had 20 minutes to write our speech and I was trying to think outside the box so I decided to write my entire speech to the tune of J.Lo & Ja Rule’s “I’m Real”. And then I sang it. And then I won.

Funnest fact:
One time I was waiting outside of a club in Seattle, literally the only person there behind the velvet ropes and all of a sudden, four Escalades pulled up. A mob of people stumbled out and then what do you know, out came Drake. True story. I was probably two feet away from him when he walked by me and all I could come up with was “Yo Drizzy, I LOVE YOUR S*** MAN”….he gave me the Drakeiest head nod and hand shake ever and that was that. I think I tweeted “Just met Drake” right after.

What do you think has been essential to Strictly Good Energy’s success?
Fearlessness and self-love.

What was something that surprised you about blogging/writing?
How therapeutic it can be to put your thoughts and feelings on paper. A lot of my poetry is inspired by experiences of strife and the baggage of mind games they came with. Writing is now a key catalyst for my personal growth.

If you had to describe Strictly Good Energy in 6 words or less, what would you say?
One love.

Who or what inspires you?
Cool breezes at the perfect moment. LeBron. My Grandma. A man named Bill Wright-Swadel. The College Dropout album. A handful of my closest friends.

If you aren’t doing anything related to Strictly Good Energy, what are you doing in your free time?
I spend a lot of time staying in close contact with my friends and family. I’m usually having 3-4 conversations going at any given time across text, email, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger. It is what it is. I’m also obsessed with sports. I consume an unhealthy amount of sports content throughout the week. I’m actually proud of that. What else? I exercise, meditate, write & record the occasional rap song. You know, the essentials.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Never resist a generous impulse.
